Meet the instructors

Will Skett (Owner):   Hitting/ Infield/ Outfield

Hello everyone and welcome to my website. Here's a little about myself and my baseball life.

I was born and raised in the San Fernando Valley. As a boy, I played baseball at West Valley Little League, and that is where I fell in love with the game of baseball. I played at Reseda high school before transferring for my freshman year of college at LA Valley College.

I transferred to Long Beach State for my sophomore and junior seasons playing under the legendary Dave Snow. During my time at Long Beach State, I was fortunate to be named to the Big West conference team, and named to the all "West" regional team in Fresno California.

In 1996 I was drafted in the 21st round by the Toronto Blue Jays (609 overall) and signed to play. During my time playing, I played in The NY Penn, Florida State, and Southern League. In St Catharine’s Canada (Short season A ball) I led the league in home runs and was awarded the orginization's Howard Webster Award (MVP of the team). In 1997 I played (High A) in the Florida State league leading the league in home runs, until being called up to AA Knoxville late in the season and winning the Howard Webster award again.

After 1998 season, I was listed by Baseball America as an “up and coming prospect” in the organization. However in 1999, I left the game of baseball for personal reasons and began a career with the Los Angeles Police Department.

Like a lot of people, I was not born with God given athletic ability. I worked every day to refine my skills to get the most out of my ability and was able to keep up with the competition. I was the first one at the field and many times the last one to leave. I know what it’s like to put in the hard work and to receive the rewards that come with it. So if you’re not afraid of hard work and a little sweat, then we're the right facility for you. I truly care about the game of baseball, and enjoy teaching it to others young and old. Hope to see you around the cages. Ack, Ack.

Coach Joe Ferrara: (Instructor/Partner)

Born and raised in the small town of Eastchester in upstate New York, he was a standout athlete who excelled in baseball and football having been recruited for both out of High School for the collegiate level...
At the age of fifteen, he began playing short stop for the Rockland County Generals, the college scout team of the Pittsburgh Pirates under area scout Frank Paine. He also played second base and center field for the "Goya" Cuban/American national team under Latin American scouting director Hector Gomez...
Graduating High School in 1983, he went on to play short stop at Palm Beach Junior College under Head Coach Frank Cacciatore (Phillies), then transferring on to play at William Patterson College under Head Coach Jeff Albies (Braves). Recognized as a five tool player, he began private training with former MLB Yankees players Paul Blair, Del Austin, Willie Randolph, Bucky Dent. He left college to sign as a free agent with the Pirates Organization. Plagued by nagging injuries (ankle/A Salem Buccaneers),(shoulder/AA Harrisburg Senators), his career was cut short...
In 1995, he moved to California where he lives with his wife of twenty years and their son, a professional baseball prospect himself, in Thousand Oaks...
In the spring of 2004 while helping a friends son with his hitting and fielding by introducing them both to the Bio-Mechanics and the physics involved in developing, it became apparent the Joe should be a private instructor. Sandlot Baseball Academy was born out of a single cage in a public park. Over the years Sandlot grew well beyond a one man operation...
Diamond Star Sports, an indoor training facility and scout team program opened its doors in 2011. One of his partners and biggest references is current Philadelphia Phillies Manager Gabe Kapler who recognizes the level of experience and expertise Coach Joe brings to the table in all aspects of baseball development... many of his students have since gone on to play at the collage and professional levels...
In 2016, Gold Coast Baseball was created with the emphasis on continuing his philosophy that each athlete/player is unique and needs to be trained individually, "One on One" to their personal needs to become the best THEY can be...
"I am excited to partner up with Coach Will! It is rare to find two private instructors/coaches who share in the same philosophy as we do under one roof. Simply, the DEVELOPMENT of all our baseball players".
